The Menstruation cycle is a series of changes in hormone production and structure of the uterus and ovaries of female reproductive system that make pregnancy possible. The ovarian cycle controls the production and release of eggs and the cyclic release of oestrogen and progesterone.
For some Women and girls this is very painful process and they feel tired and energyless entire day. This time is a time of awareness and sensitivity often the problems that we have during the month become more real at this time and affect us more strongly.
At this time it is particularly useful to examine these problems and find solutions. maturation is a time to explore and look within. it is a time for nurture and heal the body and mind. Again the way we look at our mensuration greatly differs between women. some women prefer to ignore it as much as possible to pretend or detach themselves from what is going on.. well, strength is good but we should also have the Awareness of our bodies and give time to listen to them. it is not to say that we can all hang around the house not doing anything but we can treat our body with care and respect. we should put in efforts to remain balanced and therefore cultivate inner strength.
The menstrual cycle is very delicate if we are stressed, travel, change our diet and so on then our cycle can change. it is very important to be aware of our cycle and to listen to our bodies. those who don’t may often have irregular periods or no periods along with many other symptoms. the state of our menstrual cycle the reflects the state of our physical and mental health, therefore it is not just a sense that can have an impact on it but also the mind making meditation and reflection an important practice.
Pranayam is very useful during menstruation as it help to balance the emotions and calm the mind. It can also help one to deal with any pain. Do remember that there should be no strain with the breath and also so no Kumbakh and bandhas as this will increase the heat and redirect the Prana in the upward direction. Deep breathing is very beneficial especially when practiced in pond pose. Bhramari, anulom-vilom shitali, sheetkari are all useful practices.
Avoid fast breathing Pranayam. Many yoga techniques can be practiced throughout the month to help balance the hormones menstrual cycle and to prevent premenstrual syndrome, period pain emotional disturbance and other associated symptoms of Mensuration.
Well I personally believe that Pranayam can give us relief for some extent. So now question is this that which are the exercise and Pranayam one can do safely during menstruation? From day 1 until the maturation ends we should stick to the practice of these asanas that help keep healthy and that do not create an obstruction to the menstrual flow and when we are choosing these Aasan we have to make sure that much energy is not consumed there. some Aasan are given here like a Janu sirsasana, paschimottanasana, Marichyasana, adho Mukha upavisthakonasana, adho Mukha वीरासन, adho Mukha Swastikasana etc.
These Aasan helps those who suffer from headaches, backache and heavy bleeding, abdominal cramps and fatigue.
the sitting Asanas like swastikasana, virasana, padmasana, baddhakonasana, gomukhasana help to remove tension and stress.
